MA Is The Best State For Women: Here's Why

WalletHub ranked Massachusetts high in several key categories relating to women's health and safety and economic and social well-being.

Massachusetts is the most women-friendly state in America, according to a study released Monday by WalletHub.

The personal finance site recognized the beginning of Women's History Month with by ranking all 50 states across 24 metrics that fit under women's health and safety and women's economic and social well-being; The Bay State ranked first and fifth, respectively, under those categories.

"When we begin to talk about how 'women' fare when it comes to the states they live in, it is essential we talk about which women," Jo Reger, the gender and society head at Oakland University, told WalletHub. "While the temptation of some research is to make 'women' a universal category, women of different races, ethnicities, religions, education level and sexual and gender identities fare very differently depending on the environment around them."

Massachusetts leads the way for women with the nation's lowest uninsured rate and best preventive health care The Bay State is also tied for the second-lowest homicide rate among women and tied for the fifth-highest life expectancy at birth.

Massachusetts ranked high in among female employment metrics as well. The state is tied for the lowest unemployment rate among women and was strong in women's job security and friendliness toward working moms.
