MA Coronavirus: 10 More Deaths, More Than 2,000 Overall Cases

Ten more deaths related to the new coronavirus were reported as the number of confirmed cases in Massachusetts surpassed 2,000, according to state health officials. There are now 25 deaths connected to COVID-19, the Department of Public Health said Thursday afternoon.

For the first time in a long time, the number of new cases was less than the number of new cases reported the previous day. Still, 569 new cases were reported Thursday, increasing the total to 2,417.

The amount of confirmed coronavirus cases in Massachusetts has skyrocketed amid expanded testing — and the ongoing transmission of the virus.

Gov. Charlie Baker said earlier Thursday there are 21 labs running tests in Massachusetts.

There are 538 confirmed cases in Middlesex County, 448 in Suffolk County, 292 in Norfolk County and 247 in Essex County. There are 364 confirmed cases in Boston, Mayor Marty Walsh said.

The 10 new deaths reported were:

• Essex County: Man in his 50s. Man in 80s.
• Franklin County: Man in his 80s.
• Hampden County: Man in his 80s.
• Middlesex County: Man in his 80s. Man in his 70s. Woman in her 80s.
• Norfolk County: Woman in her 70s.
• Suffolk: Man in his 90s.
• Worcester County: Man in his 80s.
