MA Coronavirus: 154 More Dead, More Than 2,000 New Cases

BOSTON — The state reported Friday that 2,106 people tested positive in the past 24 hours for the coronavirus. In the past day there were 154 new deaths reported, bringing the total number of people who have tested positive for the virus to 64,311. The number of people reported to have died because of the virus rose to 3,716.

The death toll dipped slightly for a second day after a single-day high of 252 was reported Wednesday.

The numbers come the same day Gov. Charlie Baker signed an executive order requiring anyone older than 2 to wear a mouth and nose covering if they could not maintain at least 6 feet from others.

A total of 289,636 tests have been done across more than two dozen state and private labs.

Middlesex County continues to have the highest number of reported cases, at 14,607. Suffolk County has 13,295 reported cases followed by Essex County with 9,028.
