MA Schools, Districts Report 652 New Coronavirus Cases
Over 200 districts and schools reported cases to the state from Nov. 12 to Nov. 18.
MASSACHUSETTS — New coronavirus cases were reported at 184 Massachusetts school districts among staff and students from Nov. 12 to Nov. 18, according to new district-by-district data released by the state Thursday. Ten special education schools and seven educational collaboratives also reported cases.
A total of 652 coronavirus cases in schools were reported Thursday, up over 90 percent from the 342 cases reported last week. There were 398 student cases and 254 staff cases.
Only in-person and hybrid students and staff with building access are counted toward district numbers. The state estimated there are 525,000 people in those two categories.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently reclassified in-person learning as high risk, after previously saying children are unlikely to spread the virus. But state officials continue to encourage in-person learning.
Twelve school districts reported ten or more cases: Methuen, Wakefield, Milton, Woburn, Swansea, Leominster, Attleboro, Taunton, Braintree, Quincy, Lynn and Wellesley. Methuen reported the most cases with 19 — there were 12 student cases and seven staff cases.
Sixty-three districts reported one case and 216 reported none. Eighteen educational collaboratives and 92 special education schools reported zero cases.
