MA Storm Leaves Over 175K Without Power

The storm knocked power to towns in almost every county in the state.

Wednesday's storm brought high winds that tore through the Commonwealth and pulled wires down in dozens of communities. Over 175,000 people in Massachusetts were without power as of 7 p.m. and the numbers continue to rise, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.

Just about every county in the state reported outages in the hundreds, except for the Cape. The brunt of the outages hit the Western half of the state in Berkshire, Hampshire and Franklin counties.

The city of Worcester had over 1,800 outages on its own with smaller communities like Westborough and Northborough trailing behind with 900 and 500 outages respectively. In Middlesex County, towns like Chelmsford and Natick also saw outages in the thousands.

Boston reported just over 400 outages as of 7 p.m.

Most outages don't have restoration times posted yet as DPW and utility crews asses the damage. Downed trees are causing most of the outages and falling dangerously close to homes and closing roads.

A high wind warning was issued throughout the state on Wednesday afternoon and is in effect until 2 a.m. on Thursday.
