MA Weather: Snowstorm To Drop Up To 6 Inches

Latest Massachusetts weather: A spring snowstorm will blanket most of the state, except for Cape Cod and the Islands.

The snow will be at its heaviest after midnight across most of Massachusetts. Six inches of snow is expected for the Worcester area and 3 inches will coat Boston.

MASSACHUSETTS — Snow is making a late return to Massachusetts and it will blanket most of the state with several inches by early Saturday morning.

Up to 6 inches will drop in the Worcester area and western part of the the state starting Friday night. The Boston area will see 3 inches and the coast 1-2 inches. Parts south of Foxborough are expected to steer clear of the snow. See the estimated totals below.

The snow will be at its heaviest after midnight. By Saturday morning it will transition to rain, according the National Weather Service. See the simulated radar below.

The weather service issued a winter weather advisory from 7 p.m. Friday through noon Saturday.

"Travel could be very difficult," the NWS said in its advisory. "The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute."

The storm will account for April's usual sporadic snowfall. Some people awoke to a few flakes earlier this week, but not much stuck.

Tonight - Rain before 2am, then rain, possibly mixed with snow between 2am and 3am, then snow after 3am. The snow could be heavy at times. Patchy fog between 1am and 2am. Low around 34. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Saturday - Snow, possibly mixed with rain, becoming all rain after 10am. Patchy fog between 10am and noon. High near 44. Northeast wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Saturday Night - Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 35. Light west wind.

Sunday - Sunny, with a high near 62. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 11 to 16 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph.

Sunday Nigh - A slight chance of showers between 1am and 3am, then a slight chance of rain after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday - A chance of rain between 7am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. Northwest wind around 7 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 36. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Tuesday - A chance of showers after 3pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 59. South wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
