Storm Bringing Snow, Rain Today

A wet Tuesday is in store for Massachusetts in what looks to be an otherwise dry, chilly week. Morning snow will give way to rain, making for a messy commute both ways, according to forecasters.

"Tuesday will be wet in southern New England," the National Weather Service said. "Many locations start off snow or a rain/snow mix before changing to rain."

The region will again avoid a significant amount of snow — potentially any snow depending on how "warm" it stays. Highs are expected to be in the low 40s.

The Boston and Worcester areas have gotten only a handful of inches of snow this year.

After the storm clears, temperatures will be some 10-15 degrees below normal. Temperatures will be in the single digits Thursday night, though calm winds should keep it from feeling below zero.

Tonight - Increasing clouds, with a low around 20. Calm wind.

Tuesday - A slight chance of snow before 10am, then rain and snow likely between 10am and noon, then rain after noon. Patchy fog after 4pm. High near 41. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday Night - A chance of rain, mainly before 9pm. Patchy fog before 8pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. South wind around 6 mph becoming west in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 40. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Wednesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 18. Northwest wind around 7 mph.

Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 30. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph.

Thursday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 9. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 31. Light and variable wind.

Friday Night - Clear, with a low around 20. West wind 3 to 5 mph.
