MA Weather: Snow Totals Adjusted Due To Uncertain Storm Track

A messy Monday will give way to overnight snow, but forecasters are now expecting lesser totals than originally anticipated.

This prolonged winter storm isn't over yet, but the final snow totals may be less than initially anticipated. Forecasters revealed lower totals in their late Monday afternoon update, but said "uncertainty on [the] storm track" means things still could change.

Eastern Massachusetts is looking at the worst of it, but there won't be another foot of snow as originally thought. The National Weather Service is calling for 4-8 inches from Plymouth to Newburyport, and less than that elsewhere. The snowfall will be heaviest from 4-10 a.m. Tuesday, forecasters said.

School districts have already canceled class for Tuesday morning, an extension of what is turning out to be quite a long weekend due to the holiday. There has been a wintry mix of rain and sleet in between bouts of snow Monday. The region is still digging itself out from what was up to a foot of snow in some parts of Massachusetts, though the Boston area dodged those kind of totals.

The snow is expected to start Monday night and last into the Tuesday morning commute.

The storm started with a steady stream of snow late Sunday afternoon and tapered off around midnight. Some spots in Western Massachusetts got over a foot, while many west of I-95 got 8-10 inches. The Boston area dodged any major snow total, as did the coast.

This is what has already fallen, not what's to come.
