MA Weather: Weekend Storm Detailed, Snowfall Amounts, Timing

A winter storm watch will be in effect as up to 8 inches of snow falls in parts of Massachusetts Saturday.

A winter storm watch will be in effect as Massachusetts braces for a weekend storm, it's first real plowable snowfall of 2020.

Up to 8 inches of snow is expected by the end of Saturday, with the highest amounts in the interior and northern parts of the state. North fo the Mass Pike is expected to get 4-6 inches, while Boston and south of the city are looking at 3-4 inches. The Cape and Southeastern Mass. could get 1-3 inches. Snow will come in from the west and begin falling between 4-5 p.m. Saturday. "Snow sticks immediately to the roads and continues through [Saturday] evening," the National Weather Service said.

The snow is expected to eventually turn into a wintry mix and then rain, but the timing on that is unknown. The precipitation should end early Sunday morning.

The NWS said travel will be very difficult.

Tonight - Mostly clear, with a low around 7. Wind chill values as low as -2. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph.

Saturday - Snow, mainly after 2pm. High near 24. Wind chill values as low as -2. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Saturday Night - Snow, mainly before midnight. Low around 24. Southeast wind around 8 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Sunday - A chance of snow showers, mainly between 8am and 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 41. West wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Sunday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 19. West wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
