A winter weather advisory has been called for much of Southern New England as forecasters warn of several inches of snow mucking up the Wednesday morning commute. Up to 3-4 inches of snow could fall in Massachusetts, with the highest totals in Southeastern Mass.

The snow is expected to start overnight and continue into the morning commute. It's unknown if it will be enough to cause any school delays or cancellations. Subscribe to your local Patch for the latest school and storm-related information.

In the "only in New England" department, that snow will follow near-record high temperatures. Tuesday will be unseasonably mild, inching toward 60 degrees in some areas.

Rain will show up Tuesday afternoon and eventually turn to snow as the temperatures sharply dip into the low 30s late Wednesday night. Expect the snow to start in the overnight hours and leave between 10 a.m.-noon.

The winter weather advisory is in effect for south of Boston from 10 p.m. Wednesday to noon Thursday. The National Weather Service said to plan for slippery roads on the morning commute, when snow may still be "falling moderate to heavily" in the area.
