BOSTON — A man was arrested after authorities said he threw a flaming American flag on top of a police transport wagon and spit at an officer.
Daniel Lucey, 40, of Boston, was arrested Sunday night near the Boston Common in possession of several flags, which police said were similar to the ones planted in front of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in memory of fallen Massachusetts service members.
Police said Lucey admitted to burning the flag and throwing it atop the empty wagon as a form of protest. He then spit at police, which landed on an officer's shoe, they said.
