Massachusetts 2022 Election Results: Healey, Driscoll Take Gubernatorial Races
Attorney General Maura Healey and Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll will become governor and lieutenant governor, according to early results.

BOSTON, MA — Polls are now closed in the 2022 Massachusetts election, and the race for governor has already been called for Attorney General Maura Healey.
The state's 2022 election was subdued, with multiple polls showing Democratic candidates leading in key statewide races since the September primary. The Associated Press called the race for Healey as soon as polls closed.
Healy is the first openly gay woman to become governor of Massachusetts, the first Democrat in eight years and the first woman to be elected governor. Former Republican governor Jane Swift after Paul Cellucci left the seat to become an ambassador.

"The people of Massachusetts have given us an historic opportunity tonight, and a mandate to act. We’ll ignore the noise and focus every day on making a difference in their lives," Healey said in a victory speech. "Our job from day one will be to make our state more affordable… It is time for us to model the kind of leadership and collaboration and, yes, the respect that we want to see elsewhere. Because in Massachusetts we lift people up. We come together. And we lead. That’s who we are."
Healey defeated Donald Trump-backed Republican Geoff Diehl, a former Plymouth-area lawmaker. Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll will join Healey as lieutenant governor, according to the AP's call.

And to the race to replace Healey: Democrat Andrea Campbell declared victory over Republican James McMahon near 10:30 p.m. She was leading McMahon at the time by about 200,000 votes with 30 percent of votes in the races tallied.
The Associated Press also called the race for incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley, who was facing a challenge from Republican Donnie Palmer. U.S. Reps. Seth Moulton, D-Salem, and Jim McGovern, D-Worcester, also declared victory, as did U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss, D-Newton, who did not face a challenger in 2022.
Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin — who appeared poised to defeat Republican challenger Rayla Campbell on Tuesday — predicted lower turnout this year compared to the last midterm election in 2018. Galvin predicted turnout would be about 2.2 million for the midterm, about 400,000 lower than four years ago.
“It almost makes this election more like a midterm exam than a midterm choice,” Galvin reportedly said Monday.
The Nov. 8 election was the first under a new set of voting reforms passed by state lawmakers over the summer. Voters on Tuesday and in the primary had expanded access to early voting, mail-in voting and more time to register to vote — although Massachusetts still does not allow Election Day voter registration.
Patch will update this as results come in. Votes in most statewide races will not be fully counted until Wednesday or later.
