Snow has been hard to come by in Massachusetts this winter, even when the forecasts hint at a possibility of the white stuff.

This Friday's forecast feels a bit different, with forecasters indicating a high probability of a plowable amount of snow — the first such snowfall of the year for most of the state.

AccuWeather is saying Boston could see 3-6 inches — with the potential for more. The snow may arrive around 7 a.m. Friday.

"Boston has a higher likelihood of experiencing winter weather when compared to I-95 cities farther to the south," AccuWeather said. "Cold air may try to hold on longer and allow snow to fall at the beginning and end of the storm, rather than for precipitation to mostly come in the form of rain Friday."

Other than that forecast, there aren't many details as to when or how much snow will fall, other than the National Weather Service saying it could be "heavy at times" from Boston to Worcester on Friday morning.

Snow hasn't been finding Massachusetts to be hospitable this season. Nantucket saw a couple inches Monday, seeing its first inch before Boston.

The entire state continues to be well behind its average snowfall for early January, but it should make up some ground by the weekend.
