Happy 'Pet Sounds' Day, Boston!

God only knows why this happened, but won't it be nice?

The iconic album turns 50 this year and, in tribute, Mayor Marty Walsh has declared Friday "Pet Sounds Day" in Boston.

No, you don't get off work (unfortunately). It's one of those honorary holidays - a nice nod to the legendary Brian Wilson, who'll be in town performing a symphonic rendition of the album with the Boston Pops Friday and Saturday at Symphony Hall.

The Beach Boys' iconic album was released May 16, 1966. Even those who haven't listened through the entire album are no doubt familiar with lasting hits like "God Only Knows," "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "Sloop John B."

You can find the mayor's proclamation in its entirety below. It's worth a read if only for how funny archaic political jargon sounds when you apply it to a rock legend.
