More Snow For More Parts Of MA In Latest Nor'easter Forecast

Northern parts of Massachusetts will be harder hit than expected; southern sections of the state will see at least a foot of snow.

MASSACHUSETTS — The National Weather Service on Tuesday increased its snowfall forecast for more parts of Massachusetts ahead of the nor'easter arriving late Wednesday and hovering over the region through midday Thursday.

Wind gusts of up to 40 mph and heavy snowfall could cause blizzard conditions in many parts of the state. The latest forecast calls for 9 -12 inches north of the Massachusetts Turnpike; parts of the Merrimack Valley and the Route 2 corridor could see as much as 15 inches.

Towns south of the turnpike could get 12-18 inches, while Cape Cod and parts of the South Shore may see lower amounts.

The weather service placed southern New England on a winter storm watch. The service cautioned "uncertainty still exists" and that it was continuing to model different scenarios that could result in more or less snow than the current forecast.

Snow will start in most parts of Massachusetts by midnight Wednesday and move out of the area by noon Thursday. The storm will give way to overcast skies and cold temperatures Wednesday afternoon. Those cold temperatures are expected to linger through Saturday.
