BOSTON — On Wednesday, organizers for Boston Calling announced Nine Inch Nails will be the new headliner for the return of the three-day music festival over Memorial Day weekend.

The unexpected loss of drummer Taylor Hawkins caused the Foo Fighters to drop out of Boston Calling last month, leaving organizers of the festival scrambling to find a replacement headliner for the second time.

Rage Against the Machine also dropped out of the lineup in early January as omicron levels continued to peak throughout the country.

When the festival was first announced, the Foo Fighters and Rage Against the Machine were set to be the top acts in 2020, but Boston Calling was canceled that year and the following year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nine Inch Nails will be the headline act on Friday, May 27, the opening day of the festival. The Strokes will headline on Saturday and Metallica will be the headliner on Sunday.
