First Taste of Downtown Crossing in Photos

The inaugural event took over the Avenue de Lafayette Sunday afternoon.

BOSTON, MA — The inaugural Taste of Downtown Crossing event proved consistently busy, but not too crowded Sunday, as visitorss lined up to sample the food, listen to music and watch live cooking demonstrations.

This was the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District's first go at Taste of Downtown Crossing, aiming to showcase both the array of local restaurants, as well as the neighborhood itself.

Patch documented the food (below), as well as the painters, visitors, and the views (above). If you snapped any great #TasteofDTX photos, please share! We'd love to showcase them. Email alison.bauter@patch.com.

Inaugural 'Taste of Downtown Crossing' Spotlights the Neighborhood

The Taste Of venue was impressive to say the least, with rows of vendors flanked by tall buildings and manicured sidewalks dotted by un-crowded, bistro-style tables perfect for downing one of the delicious bites or sipping one of many beverages being offered. The only downside was a stiff and sometimes chilly September breeze blowing down Avenue de Lafayette, cooling the waiting food samples and sending paper plates tumbling.

Nonetheless, the first-time festival was warmly received.

The diverse crowd spanned generations, from 30-somethings tipping back a few beers to families trying to entice their toddlers to try some of the more adventurous dining options.

Patch collected a few snaps of those samples below:

Preparing the grilled, Thai-style chicken with peanut dipping sauce from Back Deck
Making our new canine friend jealous with Kung Pao Cauliflower, from Legal Crossing
Setting out plates of smoked duck breast and grilled peaches from The Merchant
Grabbing a chicken/quinoa meatball from Yvonne's
Eyeing up the cheese plates, one of three offerings from Roche Bros.
Snacking on honey/soy-glazed steak from Ruth's Chris Steak House
People were lining up for this burger and mac'n'cheese from JM Curley's
Muffins from Marliave, which also had coffee for those of us just stumbling out of bed
