BOSTON— A man is facing a criminal charge after police said he smashed two windows on an MBTA train Monday, police said.

MBTA Transit Police arrested Brian Howard, 27, of Leominster, after they said he damaged Orange Line train windows while he was onboard.

Just after 11 a.m. Monday, Transit Police officers were called to the MBTA's State Street Station for a report of an unknown man who intentionally broke two train windows.

"Upon arrival officers ascertained the following: A male, while travelling on an Orange Line train, was punching and kicking the windows to the door causing them to spider web crack," Transit police said in a statement.

The man police believed was responsible, got off the train at State Street and ran off.

Multiple transit police units searched the area and eventually stopped a man who was later identified as Howard on Boylston Street. Police said they were able to positively identify Howard and arrested him for malicious destruction of public property.
