Primary Election Results: Chynah Tyler Will Succeed Gloria Fox in 7th District
Preliminary results from the city show Tyler has won the three-way race.

Chynah Tyler has won a three-way primary battle Thursday to fill retiring state Rep. Gloria Fox's seat.
With 100 percent of votes tallied, preliminary results from the City of Boston show Tyler won just under 44 percent of the vote.
The three candidates in the Democratic primary were Monica Cannon, Marydith Tuitt and Tyler.

As of 10 p.m., Tyler had 43.72 percent of the vote; Cannon had 38.52 percent; and Marydith Tuitt had 17.66 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results from the city.
Tyler is a former aide to Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz, Tuitt is Fox's chief of staff, and Cannon is a youth worker and community activist.

Tyler's campaign saw the strongest financial support of the three, enjoying significant funding from pro-charter group Democrats for Education Reform. According to WBUR, the group spent close to $10,000 on her race. A group opposed to lifting the cap on charter schools, the Massachusetts Teachers Association also spent over $14,000 in support of Cannon, the station reports.
Fox is the longest-serving African-American woman in the Legislature, first elected in 1986.
