BOSTON, Mass. – Project Bread, the leading statewide food security nonprofit, is pleased to welcome Sylvia Perry, DNP, MS, ANP-BC, a Nurse Practitioner at Mass General Brigham, to its Board of Directors. Project Bread's Board of Directors is a group of professionals who provide governance, expertise, and strategic support to the nonprofit.

"Sylvia brings critical health care expertise at a time when the connections between food security and health outcomes have never been more clear," said Erin McAleer, CEO of Project Bread. "Her experience in patient care, clinical leadership, and her deep understanding of how social determinants of health impact well-being, will strengthen our ability to build effective partnerships with health care systems. Sylvia's commitment to systemic solutions and her proven track record in both clinical practice and nonprofit governance make her an invaluable addition to our board."

Perry currently serves as an advocate for clinician well-being and patient experience at Mass General Brigham, where her clinical interests include breast surgical oncology and internal medicine. She has been a practicing clinician for 20 years and held nursing leadership and research roles throughout her career. In addition to clinical expertise, Perry is a certified health and well-being coach, teaching lifestyle medicine to breast cancer patients, and she brings valuable nonprofit board experience with a commitment to supporting fundraising initiatives. She is a member of the MGH Workplace Well-being Collaborative and Center for Professional Well-being Advisory Board, serves on the Wide Horizons for Children Board, and is an MGH Institute of Health Professions President's Council member.

"Health care providers see every day how food insecurity affects people's health and their ability to thrive," said Perry. "Project Bread's approach to creating systemic change through policy, prevention, and partnership aligns with what I've experienced in health care—that advocating for children and families, focusing on the whole health of a person, and pushing for lasting solutions require addressing root causes, not just symptoms. I’ve long admired Project Bread’s footprint through the Walk for Hunger, and I'm honored to join a team deeply rooted in this work, learn about the impact that policy change can have, and support solutions that connect patients with the resources they need to achieve food security."

Perry received a Bachelor's Degree in history from Yale College, Master of Science in health and social behavior from Harvard School of Public Health, Master of Science in Nursing from MGH Institute of Health Professions, and Doctor of Nursing Practice from University of New Hampshire.
