Protests Planned Across MA After U.S. Strike On Iran General

Protests are scheduled across Massachusetts Saturday after the U.S. killed a top Iranian commander, ratcheting up tensions between the two nations.

Massachusetts Peace Action, a group that opposes a war with Iran and any American military presence in the Middle East, condemned President Trump for ordering Thursday's strike on Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

"President Trump's assassination of Qassem Soleimani, a senior Iranian military leader, is just the latest unilateral action by this administration that has brought us to the brink of war with Iran," the group said.

Massachusetts Peace Action is planning a protest at 2 p.m. at Park Street Station in Boston, as well as several morning gatherings, including Arlington, Andover, Walpole and Northampton. There is a also a protest planned for 2 p.m. at the State House in Providence.

Massachusetts lawmakers have either questioned or condemned Trump's actions, though many seem to be more skeptical of the administration's plan going forward than Soleimani's death itself.

State and Boston Police said Friday there has been no "credible threat" to the state or city after Iran promised vengeance. Boston Police are increasing patrols.
