The Red Sox have traded catcher Sandy Leon to the Cleveland Indians, the team announced Monday morning. Boston received minor league righthanded pitcher Adenys Bautista.
Leon, 30, was a light-hitting catcher who emerged as an on-field leader and defensive star over five seasons in Boston. He shared catching duties with Christian Vasquez during the team's World Series run in 2018.
Leon hit .221 with 25 home runs and 123 RBI in his Red Sox career.
