Raising money to benefit his victims, numerous possessions of infamous gangster Whitey Bulger go up for auction in Boston next week.
After 16 years on the run, authorities located James "Whitey" Bulger in California in 2011. In 2013, he was convicted of numerous crimes, including a role in 11 murders. A judge in April approved the auction of many former possessions.
"Our goal is to maximize the proceeds of the auction to compensate the victims of Bulger’s brutal crimes,” according to U.S. Marshal John Gibbons.

The proceeds will be divided among the families of Bulger's murder and extortion victims. That includes items found in an apartment where Bulger was holed up in Santa Monica, California, belonging to him and his girlfriend, Catherine Greig. Greig herself has been sentenced to almost 10 years behind bars.
Some of the items up for auction seem a little creepy, even without being associated with a convicted murder (skull ring, anyone?) Others are weirdly mundane. For example, you could buy a hand-carved pinewood cross that belonged to the couple for $10, or a black reclining leather love seat for $30 (which is actually kind of a steal). There's also clothing, kitchen supplies and books. Oh, and a whole lot of fancy jewelry.
