Shooting Leaves Father Dead, Questions Unanswered

Boston Police said the shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.

BOSTON, MA — Police are investigating after a shooting Wednesday evening left a man in his 20s dead and his family and friends with unanswered questions.

Shortly after sunset Wednesday, Boston Police officers got the call for shots fired on Ripley Road, in the city's Dorchester neighborhood. According to BPD, on arrival they found a man in his 20s, apparently shot. He died at the scene.

The Boston Globe reports that relatives have identified the victim as 21-year-old father Roland Singleton.

According to the paper, witnesses say an unknown man with his hands in his pockets opened fire from across the street, shooting Singleton in the head. He had a two-year-old daughter, a family member told the paper.

The motive is unclear. A close friend told the paper Singleton wasn't a "trouble-maker" or "gang-buster," while a cousin agreed, "He didn't do street stuff."
