Six Firefighters Injured In Seven-Alarm South Boston Fire
The fire tore through seven residential buildings, at least five of which are a "total loss," and left 38 people homeless.

BOSTON — An early-morning fire in South Boston Saturday left six firefighters injured and 38 people homeless.
The fire, which was reported around 3:30 a.m., quickly spread through seven homes on Columbia Road and Douglas Street. Boston Fire Commissioner Jack Dempsey described the firefighters' injuries as minor.
At least five of the buildings are a "total loss," Dempsey said, who estimated damage to be $10 million.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh was on scene early Saturday morning. The Red Cross was coordinating temporary housing for the displaced residents, and the MBTA provided buses to transport them.
