Snow Day Closes Boston Public Schools Friday

Between a winter storm approaching and a COVID-19 surge, Boston Public Schools are canceling all classes Friday.

BOSTON — An upcoming storm set to hit the Boston area has Boston Public Schools preemptively canceling Friday's classes on Thursday.

The winter storm is expected to blast most of the state with 6-8 inches of snow during its first storm of the season, hitting especially hard during the morning commute.

On Thursday, Boston Public Schools Superintendent Brenda Cassellius tweeted that Friday would be a snow day.

Snow is expected to start falling early Friday morning — between 3-5 a.m. depending on where you are in the state — and intensify through the morning. Forecasters are expecting a rate of 1 inch per hour from around 6-9 a.m.

This upcoming storm, coupled with school staffing shortages across the state during the latest COVID-19 surge, could mean a mess of trying to get students to class in the first place, so students and parents outside the Boston area will be keeping a close eye on additional school cancelations.
