Sumner Tunnel Closure: Free Blue Line Rides, Other Discounts Offered To Drivers
The Sumner Tunnel will close for two months in July, cutting off a main driving route from Logan Airport and East Boston.

BOSTON, MA — Transportation officials will attempt to alleviate congestion around the upcoming full Sumner Tunnel closure by offering new transit options between Boston and Logan Airport.
The Sumner Tunnel will close on July 5 until Aug. 31 for restoration work. The closure is the most major disruption during a longer construction project that has taken the tunnel offline over many weekends. The tunnel allows drivers to reach the Mass Pike and I-93 from Logan Airport and East Boston. The Callahan Tunnel side will not be part of the closure.
The Blue Line subway will be free for the duration of the closure. The line travels from downtown Boston to Wonderland in Revere. The T will also offer discount parking for $2 per day at the Beachmont, Orient Heights, Suffolk Downs and Wonderland stations.

The T's East Boston ferry will also be free during the closure. The T will also begin a new ferry from the Blossom Street Pier in Lynn to Long Wharf.
One-way Commuter Rail rides from either the Salem or Swampscott stations to Boston will be only $2.40, and parking will be free at all the stations between Beverly and West Gloucester.
