Update: Man in Charles River Drowning Identified

An 18-year-old drowned Friday night near the Weeks Bridge in Cambridge.

An 18-year-old drowned in the Charles River near the Weeks footbridge Friday night, according to Massachusetts State Police.

He was identified Saturday by the Middlesex District attorney's office as Tyler Greene, 18, of Georgia.

State Police responded to a report of a person going into the water off the footbridge in Cambridge around 8:45 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses told police they saw a male go into the Charles River, come up with arms flailing, then go under and not come back up.

The 18-year-old victim was found 25 minutes later by Cambridge Fire Department Divers, State Police said. Cambridge EMS transported him to Beth Israel where he was pronounced dead.

The drowning remains under investigation.

State Police from the Brighton Barracks, Marine Unit and the Air Wing were assisted on scene by Cambridge Police, Fire, and EMS personnel.
