Teen Who Drowned In Hyde Park's Turtle Pond Identified

HYDE PARK, MA — State police reported that the body of a missing swimmer had been recovered by divers just after 8:00 p.m. Thursday night.

The victim, Jason Peri Bonilla, 19, Roxbury, was pronounced dead on the scene.

State police say that Bonilla and his friends went swimming in the pond around 3:30 p.m., but Bonilla went underwater trying to swim across. They say his friends tried to keep him afloat but failed and he went under.

It took first responders three hours to locate his body.

Bonilla's immediate family lives in Honduras, and police say he was living with relatives in Roxbury.

No other information is being released at this time.
