BOSTON, MA — Michelle Wu will be sworn in as mayor of Boston during a ceremony at noon at City Hall. It is the first time a woman or person of color has been elected to lead the city.

It's a quick turnaround for the former at-large city councilor, who takes over the mantle just two weeks after being elected. Typically, inauguration would wait until January, but city charter rules differ when it comes to replacing an acting mayor.

Tuesday's ceremony is expected to be brief, as a more formal event alongside newly elected Boston city councilors is planned for January.

Wu and acting Mayor Kim Janey, who assumed the role after Marty Walsh became President Biden's labor secretary, are both expected to speak today.
