We Asked a Web Developer to Review Boston.Gov

Apparently, it actually lives up to the hype. What do you think?

"Greetings, Boston citizens. Have you heard the good news? A new city website is risen. Praise be!"

So, maybe not quite that much hype, but the City of Boston is going above and beyond to spread the good word about its newly released, revamped website.

According to the city, it represents "a new direction for digital services in the city," born through an "innovative and collaborative approach" by the City's Department of Innovation and Technology team to create an accessibility-focused redesign.

We at Patch wanted to see whether it's really as great as they claim, so we asked one of the savvy product designer/developers on our team to review it. Here's his initial take:

"They've done a great job with a mobile-first website that looks clean and simple on a phone while responding nicely to a tablet and full desktop size."
"The current banner does take up quite a bit of space, but I hope that will be reduced after the initial launch."
"The site is not without a few rough edges, particularly when drilling down into the 311 section, which does not appear to have been fully integrated yet."
"Overall, I think that Boston has done a nice job improving and integrating the many departments into a fairly cohesive experience. I hope that they will work out the kinks and continue to improve."

This is coming from a guy from Providence who, by his own admission, kind of hates giving Boston credit for anything. So, cheers to City Hall! If nothing else, we can all agree that it far surpasses the previous iteration.
