Woman Killed In Crash After Teen Runs Red Light In Brighton

The 19-year-old driver from Randolph is being charged with motor vehicle homicide.

BRIGHTON, MA — A woman in her 50s was killed after State Police say a teenaged driver ran a red light in Brighton at a high rate of speed, crashing into her car late Monday night.

State Troopers say Dina L. Donahue, 53, of Topsham, Maine, suffered fatal injuries when her car was hit at the intersection of Birmingham Parkway and Western Ave. just before 10 p.m.

Anderson A. Nova, 19, of Randolph, was driving a rented car negligently and at a "high rate of speed" on Soldiers Field Road in Brighton, when he continued onto Birmingham Parkway, running a red light, police said.

Donahue was transported to a local hospital where she did not survive her injuries, and Nova was seen trying to run away from the crash while carrying his dog.

While investigating the crash, troopers located stolen checks and credit cards in the rental car Nova was driving.

Police say Nova's license had previously been suspended and he was not on the rental agreement and for the car, concluding that someone else rented the car for him.

The two-car crash severely impacted traffic Monday night. Road closures were in place for some time as police investigated the serious crash.

State Police charged Nova with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating after suspension, speeding, leaving the scene of a crash causing personal injury or death, receiving stolen property, and using a motor vehicle without authority.

Nova was released from the hospital Tuesday morning and was booked at the State Police-Boston Barracks.

He will be arraigned Tuesday in the Brighton Division of the Boston Municipal Court.
