Braintree Tradition Prompts Message From Police Amid 'Safety Concerns'

The message was sent as a matter of safety ahead of the longtime "senior assassin" tradition, which features squirt gun chases through town.

BRAINTREE, MA — As the end of the school year in Braintree approaches, seniors have a little leeway to have a lot of fun.

One of the long-running traditions in Braintree is called the "senior assassin".

"This game involves high school seniors tracking other seniors and squirting the 'target' with a squirt gun," Braintree police explained.

The were in a position to explain what they game is, they said, because as the game as grown there have been safety concerns that have popped up over the years.

"While this student led town wide squirt gun tournament has been occurring for many years, it has grown to a point where there are many safety concerns," they said.

They continued:

"This activity can appear suspicious and concerning to the general public resulting in calls to 911. Various call types we have received include participants trespassing on private property and driving dangerously in residential neighborhoods and major roadways which puts themselves and residents at risk," police said.

In 2024, police are asking the community to be aware of the game. If residents see anything suspicious, they're asked to call police rather than confronting anyone themselves.
