BRAINTREE, MA — A nine-day service suspension on the MBTA's Red Line is approaching fast for Braintree riders.

Red Line Braintree Branch service will be suspended between North Quincy and Braintree for nine days, stretching from Nov. 15 to 23.

Free and accessible shuttle bus service will replace trains between North Quincy and Braintree. Officials said riders should budget extra time when taking these buses, however.

The MBTA will continue infrastructure upgrades, track renewal and other revitalization work on the Red Line during this time.

"Building on the success of the Track Improvement Program, this regular, planned renewal and revitalization work is ongoing and continuous, ensuring the long-term stability of our infrastructure and preserving the system for future generations of riders," officials said.

During this service change, crews will complete major rail revitalization work throughout the affected area, including critical full-depth track replacement and signal modernizations at the Quincy Center crossover, a complex track section that connects the main Braintree Branch to nearby subway car storage tracks, officials said.

Crews are also maximizing the unencumbered access to the area by advancing many other critical projects, like security system upgrades, bridge project work and inspections and station enhancements and deep cleaning, officials said.

"When service resumes following this service change, riders will experience an even more reliable trip on the Red Line with fewer disruptions due to older infrastructure and outdated signals," the MBTA said. "This work is also critical to maintaining consistent 50 MPH service on the Braintree Branch and supports the MBTA’s goal of further reducing trip times for riders."
