Copperhead Snake Bites Man Near Hotel In Braintree
The man was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, police said.

BRAINTREE, MA — A man near a Braintree hotel was bitten by a copperhead snake Thursday night.
The bite took place on Wood Road as the man was leaving the hotel, police said. The bite victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and Environmental Police took custody of the the snake.
The copperhead snake is one of two venomous snakes that are native to Massachusetts, according to the Tufts Wildlife Clinic. They are known for having a thick, heavy body, with keeled scales, a triangular head, and a thin, cat-like pupil. Its brown and orange body is well-camouflaged against the forest floor.

Should you encounter one, police recommend that you get some space between you and the snake and call police if necessary. Due to it's endangered status, it is illegal to kill, harass, or possess a copperhead snake.
