Man Faces Charges In Braintree Days After Leading Police On Pursuit

The latest charges stem from the man being in possession of a stolen moped, police said.

BRAINTREE, MA — One person is charged after stealing a moped out of Boston earlier this month, Braintree police said.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, officers patrolling Granite Street noticed a moped being driven without a registration decal or license plate.

Officers attempted to stop the moped, which initially slowed but was unable to evade officers due to heavy traffic, officials said.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the moped had been stolen from Boston on July 29 and the operator, 29-year-old Alexander Roberts, of Quincy, was driving with a suspended license.

Roberts was arrested for receiving a stolen motor vehicle, operating with a suspended license and a traffic and plate violation, police said.

Police said Roberts was arrested nine days prior of he fled from officers who attempted to stop him for speeding on Pearl Street.

At that time, Roberts crashed his vehicle and fled into a wooded area after a brief pursuit.

Officers quickly set up a perimeter, located Roberts hiding on a nearby porch and arrested him. He was charged with multiple offenses, including assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, possession of Class B drugs, failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and several other traffic violations.
