3 Brookline Residents Make Forbes' Richest List

BROOKLINE, MA — Three of the wealthiest people in the US live in Brookline, including the fourth-richest person in the state, according to the latest Forbes ranking of the US's wealthiest.

Brookline's wealthiest are worth $13.5 billion and all three are men.

Forbes released its 2020 Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans Tuesday, and 13 Massachusetts billionaires made the cut, including three who have homes in Brookline.

By way of comparison, Amazon's Jeff Bezos leads the overall list with a net worth of $179 billion, followed by Microsoft's Bill Gates at $111 billion and third is Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg at $85 billion. Elon Musk, was listed at No.7 with $77 billion.

Brookline residents on the list, with their overall ranking and net worth, are listed below:

93. Robert Kraft, of Brookline, $6.6 billion: After six Superbowl titles, Kraft's National Football League teams is now worth an estimated $4.1 billion.

181. Alan Trefler, of Brookline, $4.1 billion: Trefler took a huge jump in this year's list, moving up from 306th last year. In 1983, he founded Pegasystems, which now has annual sales of more than $900 million.

299. John Henry, of Florida and Brookline, $2.8 billion: Technically, Forbes considers Henry a Florida resident. But he's well known in Massachusetts as the owner of the Boston Red Sox and The Boston Globe. He also owns an estate on Cottage Street in Brookline.
