Brookline Police Warn Of Aggressive Turkeys After Encounter
Turkeys are known to be more territorial during mating season.
BROOKLINE, MA — The police department is warning residents to maintain their distance from wild turkeys, as it has received reports of recent aggressive actions by them.
According to the department, Animal Control Officer Brian Bridges had to be called to assist when a turkey chased after a parking enforcement officer Wednesday morning.
The department attributes the change in behavior to mating season, which takes place approximately between the months of March and May. It urges the community not to feed them and appear large and intimidating if they get too close. In addition, it suggests using umbrellas as shields if necessary.
Community members can report aggressive turkey encounters to animal control at 617-730-2222.
