Brookline Shining A Light On Domestic Violence This October
The town has multiple events going on throughout the month to raise awareness for the national issue.
BROOKLINE, MA — The police department and town is raising awareness of domestic violence this October through multiple initiatives.
Brookline’s Annual Vigil Against Domestic Violence will take place at the Garden of Remembrance on 11 Pierce St. on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 4:30 p.m. This will be the sixteenth year of the event. In addition, police officers will also be wearing purple ribbon pins on their uniforms in recognition of the month while the Public Safety Building is lit up with the same color. These visual additions are brought through a partnership with the Jennifer A. Lynch Committee Against Domestic Violence and the Brookline Domestic Violence Roundtable.
“The color purple signifies courage and compassion,” Police Chief Jennifer Paster said in a statement. “The traumas of domestic violence are harmful and long lasting. We continue to seek community support in building awareness of the signs and causes of relationship violence and sources of possible support and safety.”
