First Snow of the Year Causes Mayhem on Brookline Roads

The first plow-worthy snow of the year jammed traffic and led to more than a dozen crash across Brookline this afternoon—and forecasters expect more snow tonight.

Police received reports about the following weather-related incidents and accidents since snow began falling this afternoon, according the scanner traffic:

• 2:27 p.m. – Crashes with injuries at Horace James Circle and the intersection of Newton and Grove streets.
• 2:54 p.m. – High Street Hill shut down. Crashes at Cypress and Washington streets, 120 Goddard Ave and two other locations.
• 3:07 p.m. – Crash at Freeman and Amory streets.
• 3:10 p.m. – Crash at Goddard and Meadowbrook avenues.
• 3:14 p.m. – Car stuck a pole at 171 Goddard Ave.
• 3:17 p.m. – Child struck by car at 20 Tappan St.
• 3:19 p.m. – Crash at Warren and Lee streets.
• 3:23 p.m.  – Second Crash at 171 Goddard Ave.
• 3:31 p.m. – Van stuck a pole at Route 9 and Fisher Avenue.
• 3:38 p.m. – Crash on the Dean Road Bridge.
• 3:44 p.m. – Police report Coolidge Corner completely gridlocked.
• 3:50 p.m. – Crash at Washington and Bartlett streets.
• 4:01 p.m. – Three-car crash at Warren Street and Route 9.
• 4:36 p.m. – Traffic light issues reported at Route 9 and Cypress Street.
• 4:41 p.m. – Crash at Chestnut and Cypress streets.

The National Weather Service predicts the area will see another one to two inches of snow tonight, mostly before 9 a.m.
