Green Line MBTA Closures: Here's When, What To Know
If you use the C or D Line to get around Brookline, get ready for shuttle busses.

BROOKLINE, MA — If you use the MBTA brace yourself: This summer shuttle busses will replace the C branch from Cleveland Circle to Kenmore (the entire length of the town) for the month of July. And the D branch will be closed weeknights and weekends through December.
It's part of the MBTA's 2020 plan for repair work, the MBTA and MassDOT administrators rolled out following last year's Red Line derailment. MBTA officials say it's a little good-news bad news. The good news, they say, is that hopefully this will speed up repairs and mean less disruption to commutes overall.
"We understand that these projects will result in inconvenience for our customers, but they will also result in a decreased risk of service incidents, an increase in reliability, a faster ride and an improved customer experience," MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak said in a statement.

The theory is that having crews working weekends let crews finish projects faster than they would if they were only working overnight. When it comes to the Coolidge Corner section of the C Line, the idea behind working daily through the month July- when many people are out of town anyway- would mean less disruption throughout the year.
"A lot of thought went into the acceleration plan for 2020 because we are all aware how much more disruptive it is going to be," said Transportation Secretary Stephanie Pollack in a statement. "The MBTA for the first time will be closing entire services for weekdays and weeks and a month, not just weekends as we did in 2019."

And note there won't be shuttles at Beaconsfield because of the narrow roads there. MBTA officials say it's not safe. Instead, the MBTA recommends taking the Green Line C branch from Dean Road, about a four-minute walk from Beaconsfield or hiking the 10 minutes to the Green Line D shuttle at Reservoir.
