Man Killed In Brookline Crash May Have Suffered Medical Episode: BPD

The 50-year-old driver died after his vehicle struck several cars and hit a tree. A passenger in the victim's car is expected to survive.

BROOKLINE, MA — A 50-year-old man was killed Sunday in Brookline after the car he was driving left the road, struck several cars and hit a tree, according to the Brookline Police Department.

Authorities have not identified the man but believe he may have suffered a medical episode that led to the crash.

A second occupant in the vehicle, the driver's wife, remains hospitalized and was in stable condition as of Sunday night. She is expected to survive, according to the BPD.

Three people from two other cars involved in the collision were transported to the hospital with less serious injuries, authorities said.

According to police reports, at approximately 3:40 p.m. Sunday, BPD units responded to the area of Route 9 near Warren Street after a report of a multiple-vehicle crash with serious injuries.

At the scene, according to authorities, officers encountered two victims trapped in the car that had hit the tree. Brookline Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and were able to extract the occupants from the vehicle. The couple was transported to Beth Israel Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the BPD.
