Sen. Will Brownsberger Endorses Mara Dolan For Governor’s Council

Dolan is challenging incumbent Marilyn Petito Devaney in the September 6 Democratic primary.

BROOKLINE, MA — State Senator Will Brownsberger has endorsed public defender Mara Dolan for Governor’s Council, District 3.

Brownsberger represents the Second Suffolk and Middlesex District, which includes Belmont, Watertown, Allston, Brighton, Fenway, and Back Bay.

The Governor's Council is made up of eight elected Councilors who vet and vote on judicial nominations, commutations and pardons, and members of the Parole Board. Dolan seeks the Democratic nomination for District 3, which includes parts of Boston, all of Arlington, Brookline, Newton, Waltham, and her hometown of Concord among its 32 cities and towns.

"I'm supporting Mara Dolan because she has the professional experience and collaborative disposition to be a very effective member of the Governor's Council,” Brownsberger said in a statement. “Her voice will be constructive, progressive and influential."

“Senator Brownsberger spearheaded our landmark Criminal Justice Reform Bill, which included bail reform, reducing minimum mandatory sentencing and solitary confinement, along with juvenile justice reforms,” Dolan said in a statement. “His professional experience as a public defender himself deeply informed his leadership. The impact of his work, and those reforms, is felt every day in our criminal justice system. It is an honor to have the endorsement of Senator Will Brownsberger.”
