Teenager Hospitalized After Brookline Vehicle Collision

The boy reportedly suffered a severe head laceration from the incident.

BROOKLINE, MA — A teenage boy is hospitalized after suffering a severe head laceration due to a motor vehicle crash that took place Thursday morning, according to the Brookline Police Department.

Officers and first responders arrived to the scene at approximately 7:30 a.m. on 525 Harvard St. after receiving a report of a collision between a car and motorcycle, with one person reportedly bleeding severely from the head. The motorcycle was identified as a Flywing moped. Dr. Ben Kann, a radiation oncologist at Dana Farber and Brigham and Women's Cancer Center, was nearby when the crash too kplace and helped by wrapping the boy's head in a sweatshirt in an effort to stop the bleeding, according to a report from WCVB NewsCenter 5.

According to the department’s preliminary investigation, the 14-year-old boy was driving the moped on Harvard Street in the direction of Coolidge Corner. Meanwhile, the other vehicle involved was driving on Verndale Street when it tried to make a left turn onto Harvard Street. Police say the teen, who was not wearing a helmet, failed to obey a red traffic signal and crashed into the driver's side of the vehicle. The boy was transported to Children’s Hospital.
