Weekend Police Log: Woman in Yellow Prepares for War

Dispatch entries for Jan. 14 – 17.

The following incident report is based on dispatch logs for Friday, Jan. 14, through Monday, Jan. 17. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch.

Best of Blotter
  • A caller reported a woman in a yellow parka standing on Cypress Street and talking about death as if she was speaking to a crowd, saying things like, “It’s time to go to war,” and, “It’s time to pick up arms. “ The call came in around 11 a.m. on Jan. 17.
  • A Middle Ages weapon called a “halbert” was reportedly stolen from a home on Francis Street earlier this month. Police reported that there was no sign of forced entry at the home.
Theft
  • A laptop was reported stolen from the concierge’s office of a building on the 600 block of Hammond Street on Jan. 15. Employees said cameras in the building were also unplugged.
  • A driver accused the valet for a building on the 800 block of Boylston Street of stealing $26 from their car on Jan. 14.
Animal
  • A coyote was spotted near the lagoon at Amory Park around 4 p.m. on Jan. 17. A caller told police they were concerned about the safety of children playing nearby.
  • A coyote was spotted near 200 Ivy Street around 9 a.m. on Jan. 14.
Misc.
  • A car parked on Loveland Road was apparently struck by a hit-and-run driver sometime between 4 and 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, leaving it with “significant rear-end damage.” The caller did not witness the crash.
  • An employee at the Coolidge Corner Theatre called police around 6 p.m. on Jan. 17 to report that two elderly women were refusing to leave the lobby. The women told police they did not want to wait out in the cold.
  • A woman came into the police station on Jan. 17 to report that someone had keyed her car while it was parked on City View Road.
  • A woman told police that her 13-year-old daughter and two friends were approached on Beacon Street by a man with a puffy Mohawk who offered them drugs late on Jan. 16.
  • A caller reported that a Bobcat had damaged a set of steps on Route 9 near Washington Street. Police reported that the damage appeared to have been caused by a town plow.
  • A caller reported that a driver had punched them in the stomach after the two were involved in a traffic crash near Beacon and Marion streets around 10:40 a.m. on Jan. 16. The caller declined to press charges.
  • An employee at KooKoo Café called police after a strange man walked into the café’s kitchen on Jan. 14. Police identified him as Brandon George, a homeless man who was arrested early last week after he was allegedly caught at the Brookline library. He was reportedly banned from KooKoo Café as well.
  • Employees at the Putterham Branch Library called police around 10 a.m. on Jan. 14 to report that a patron was being belligerent and refusing to follow library policies. The woman was gone by the time police arrived.
