Five Things You Need to Know Today" is a Patch column that provides readers with essential, daily information at a glance.
Today is Thursday, March 28. Here are 5 things you need to know:
- Snow and rain: Looks like a messy day today. According to the National Weather Service we can expect snow showers before 10 a.m. and then a chance of rain showers. Little to no snow accumulation expected. Otherwise cloudy with a high near 46 degrees. Mostly cloudy tonight with a low around 31 degrees.
- Public meetings: The Board of Assessors is meeting at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex hearing room. The Capital Budget Committee is meeting at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex basement meeting room.
- Relay for Life Fundraiser: The Burlington Relay for Life Team 'The Cancer Slayers' and Uno Chicago Grill are holding a fundraiser for the team to benefit the American Cancer Society today. Mention the team name when ordering food (sit in or takeout) and the restaurant will donate 20 percent of the cost of your meal to the team.
- Great decisions: The Burlington Public Library is hosting a "Great Decisions 2013: Threat Assessment" discussion at 10:30 a.m. today. The discussions will be led by Dr. Craig Brandt, a former naval officer who has been a professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology and dean of academic affairs at the Defense Institute of Security Assistance Management. Adults of all levels of knowledge and background are welcome to attend.
- Healthy running: Team Diane, a team established in 2010 in honor of former Lahey Hospital & Medical Center colleague Diane Geehan who battled lung cancer, is once again running the Boston Marathon. In support of this year's runners, the Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation Department is hosting a free Healthy Running Forum to share the latest information on the health benefits of running, sports nutrition and training tips to help keep you injury free. The event will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center Alumni Auditorium.
