Burlington's NorthWest Park - Wegman's and Kings Are Going In but What Else?

The site for Burlington NorthWest Park project is coming along and Nordblom Senior Vice President of Development Todd Fremont-Smith has stated the next phase of the construction will begin this spring.

Thus far we know that the much-anticipated Wegman's grocery store will be going in at 53 Third Ave. and the Kings bowling alley will be at 52 Second Ave. What else will go in to the development?

Thus far, there aren't many specifics. According to Nordblom's site, the development will be a 3,200,000 square foot "pedestrian-friendly, amenity-rich, vibrant mixed-use environment."

Also, according to the project web site, there will be a mix of restaurants, some featuring outdoor dining, and retail locations.

According to Burlington Senior Planner Don Benjamin, one big part of the development will be a 201-unit apartment building at 32 Second Ave. The apartment building will be feature a horse-shoe shape and has been approved by the Planning Board.

Benjamin said that applications for the restaurants and retail locations that will fill the development have not yet begun to come in. He said the applications are expected to begin coming to the planning board for review and approval within the next couple of months.

"They keep telling us it’s right around the corner," he said. "We expect them in the next month or so."

However, there are some clues of what to expect.

During a recent Burlington Board of Selectmen meeting where the board approved a liquor license for Kings, Freemont-Smith did speak about some of the type of restaurants Nordblom's is looking to attract.

During that meeting he said the other liquor licenses will go to restaurants, including a high-end steak place, a high-end Italian restaurant and a high-end American Grill, among other locations.

Freemont-Smith said eight all-alcohol licenses and two beer-and-wine licenses that have been appropriated and approved for NorthWest Park.

Wegman's - Wegman's, which has signed a 30 year lease with Nordblom with options to renew, is planning to build a 135,000 square foot facility with adjacent parking for 800 vehicles. The plans include a 14,000 square foot mezzanine overlooking a food court, an outdoor café and outdoor cooking classes.  Patrons will be able to enter and exit Wegman’s from Third Avenue, Fourth Avenue or from Network Drive via Second Avenue.

Kings - The Kings bowling alley will feature a 296-seat restaurant in a 27,000 square foot building and will have 24 bowling alleys. The total occupancy is over 600 people. The location will feature a full bar and at-alley food and drink service. During the daytime Kings will be available for birthday parties. There will also be a function room for business meetings and gatherings.
