Methuen Man Charged In Killing Of His Mother, A Lawrence Teacher: Essex DA

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said Dominga Romano, 55, was found dead in her home early Monday night.

METHUEN, MA — A Methuen man is facing murder charges after his mother — a Lawrence teacher — was found dead in her Methuen home on Monday night, the Essex County District Attorney's Office said.

Anthony Nunez-Romano, 36, was arraigned in Lawrence District Court on Tuesday on the murder charge and gun charges.

He pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail.

The Methuen Police Department said it conducted a well-being check on Lyndale Avenue in Methuen at approximately 5 p.m. on Monday. Police said Dominga Romano, 55, was found dead inside the home.

WCVB-TV reported that police said Nunez-Romano shot his mother several times before covering her body. Assistant District Attorney Paige Timko said in court on Tuesday that Romano's body was found wrapped in paper towels and a comforter.

Police said a gun was found in a kitchen drawer and that spent shell casings were found in the home.

Assistant District Attorney Paige Timko represented the prosecution at Tuesday's arraignment.

Nunez-Romano was represented by attorney Joseph Perullo.

Nunez-Romano is set to return to court for a probable cause hearing on Feb. 20.
