Letter: Why I Support Stephen Lynch for the United States Senate

A letter to the editor from Burlington Selectman Michael Runyan in support of Stephen Lynch for the U.S. Senate in the upcoming special election to fill Sec. of State John Kerry's former seat.

To the Editor,

I am writing in support of Stephen Lynch for United States Senate. I have been following the special election closely and have been quite impressed with Mr.Lynch's stance on some very difficult issues during his 12 year career in Congress. Lynch has repeatedly stood his ground based on his knowledge and concerns of his constituency. Despite considerable pressure from party Democrats, Lynch voted no on The Affordable Care Act of 2010 (Obama Care) because of his concerns with particular portions of the legislation. Additionally, Stephen has spoken out against raising the age of retirees and cuts to Social Security, calling it "a sacred promise" made to generations of Americans.

Stephen's background as an average kid growing up in South Boston and his job as iron worker for eighteen years have been well documented. He attended college on nights and weekends as do so many hard working young adults in this country and eventually earned his law degree. Stephen has demonstrated his independent voice on the floor of congress and I expect that he will continue to reach out for compromise with the working man in mind.
