Macy's Wins $263,000 Tax Abatement In Burlington

BURLINGTON, MA — Burlington overvalued the Burlington Mall space for Macy's in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and will have to refund more than $263,000 to the retailer. The Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board ruled in favor of Macy's on July 11 after the Burlington Board of Assessors turned down an abatement request and Macy's appealed to the state board. The Appellate Tax Board ruled that Burlington had overvalued the property by $1.5 million in 2014, $3.8 million in 2015 and $3.8 million in 2016.

The board's ruling means Burlington will have to refund $47,102.64 in tax payments to Macy's for 2014, $110,405.82 in 2015 and $105,917.08 in 2016.
